Full-Time Paralegal Position

The Gracey Law Firm is seeking bright and diligent candidates for a full-time paralegal opportunity available immediately in a friendly and collaborative office based in Farmington Hills, Michigan. The Paralegal will manage complex client cases at the federal and state levels related to all firm practice areas by providing legal support throughout the entire litigation process and administrative support in the office. He or she will utilize the federal courts’ Case Management/Electronic Case Files system to eFile documents and propose motions. The candidate must possess exemplary proof-reading and follow-up skills.

Essential Job Duties

  • Become thoroughly familiar with all active client cases by understanding the nature of file documents and their relationship to the case
  • Understand the litigation process in order to anticipate what types of documents are necessary so that documents are prepared ahead of time and pleadings are filled promptly
  • Adequately compile, organize and update case materials while acting as a custodian of any and all documents and files relevant to active cases
  • Compose pleadings, briefs, legal memoranda, correspondence, motions, stipulations, reports, billing statements and trial binders
  • Maintain a comprehensive organizational system for thousands of electronic and physical client files containing sensitive information

Qualifications and Requirements 

The ideal Paralegal candidate is a college graduate with a strong interest in the legal profession and criminal defense litigation with the ability to make a long-term commitment as we invest substantial time and effort into training our staff. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills are necessary with the ability to interact professionally with attorneys, clients, courts and legal staff. The successful candidate will be dependable and can think outside of the box, with strong self-motivation and ability to work both independently and as a positive addition to our team. The candidate will be expected to take instruction, prioritize incoming work, follow through on assignments in a deadline-driven environment and manage multiple tasks while maintaining an acute attention to detail. The position requires strong computer skills, specifically with Microsoft Word. The candidate must possess exemplary proof-reading and follow-up skills. Knowledge of document management on network drives, CJA eVoucher system and/or the federal courts’ Case Management/Electronic Case Files system to electronically file documents and propose motions is a plus. At least two years of prior legal experience is required.

Fixed-Term Paralegal Position

The Gracey Law Firm is seeking bright and diligent candidates for a full-time paralegal opportunity available immediately in a friendly and collaborative office based in Farmington Hills, Michigan. This temporary position is expected to last for one year. The selected candidate will work on a federal death-eligible case and assist in all aspects of the litigation process by composing legal pleadings, memoranda, correspondence, motions, stipulations, reports and a trial binder. He or she will utilize the federal courts’ Case Management/Electronic Case Files system to eFile documents and propose motions. The candidate must possess exemplary proof-reading and follow-up skills.

Internship

Internship Description
The Gracey Law Firm, is seeking bright and diligent candidates for an internship opportunity available immediately. The internship is designed to expose current students and recent graduates to the legal field as well as to assist in honing their research and writing skills. The firm has several upcoming trials that the intern will directly work on by performing legal research, compiling trial binders, coordinating witnesses at trial, providing logistical support and attending trials. Various administrative tasks will also be assigned, ranging from filing and copying. This internship is an excellent opportunity for individuals with the desire to attend law or graduate school or for those wishing to pursue a career as a legal assistant or paralegal to gain experience. This is a flexible position that is expected to last for about 10 to 12 weeks and about 15 hours per week. Although this is an unpaid opportunity, the firm encourages students to work with their school programs to earn academic credit and will work with any students to earn credit for their work. The selected candidates will be provided training and work in a friendly and collaborative office.
